  Paula Clark
Paula Clark is the Clinical Director and founded Highthorn Physiotherapy Clinic in 1984. She graduated from Pinderfields College of Remedial Gymnasts and Recreational Therapists, Wakefield in 1974 and subsequently completed a 'Complimentary Skills in Physiotherapy' course at Pontefract Hospital in 1985.

Always having had a keen interest in exercise and rehabilitation she spent several years working in professional rugby league whilst also developing other aspects of the business.

She continues to work passionately in maintaining the high standards of service that the people of York and surrounding areas have come to expect over the past 30 years. Several members of the team have now been together for well over 20 years and have a broad range of highly developed skills to ensure optimum care for our patients.

Michelle worked in corporate health and fitness for three years before joining Highthorn Physiotherapy Clinic in 1993 becoming clinical manager in 2010 and a director in 2018.

  Ruth Wilson, Senior physiotherapist
Ruth qualified with a BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy in 2003. She worked in the NHS at the Northern General in Sheffield for 4 years rotating around the core areas of Physiotherapy before moving to York and joining the team at Highthorn Physiotherapy Clinic.

Special Interests
Ruth enjoys treating all musculoskeletal injuries but particularly enjoys assessing and correcting problems with movement patterns that are required for sport and day to day activities. She uses acupuncture alongside her other Physiotherapy Skills and has been registered with the AACP since 2010.

Other Interests
Ruth is also a mum of 2 and a keen netball player and has played in York and District leagues for the last 12 years.

 

  Sarah McGrail , Senior physiotherapist
Sarah McGrail was warmly welcomed to Highthorn Physiotherapy in February 2021.  She has quickly fitted in and is appreciated by both our patients and as a part of our friendly Highthorn team.

Graduating as a physiotherapist from Teesside Polytechnic in 1984, Sarah started working in the NHS until her interest in rowing pointed her to develop her proficiency in sports medicine. She started working with rugby union and hockey teams before the British Olympic Association’s (BOA) appointed Sarah as a governing body physiotherapist. She served the country’s National teams for over 15 years, looking after the Great Britain handball and fast pitch softball teams during training at home and international competitions.

Special Interests
Sarah has worked in private practice for over 30 years and enjoys working with patients who want to get better. Although she will happily encourage those that need a little extra motivation with their exercises! She is also an expert in the treatment of migraine headaches and whiplash injuries.

Other Interests
Believe it or not Sarah loves decorating at home! She can often be seen with a paint brush in her hand – that or a spade as she tries to grow flowers and vegetables in her newly acquired vegetable plot.

 

  Victoria Griffin , Senior physiotherapist
Victoria is currently on Maternity Leave and planning to return in early 2022, in her absence another member of the team here at Highthorn Physiotherapy will be please to assist you. For specific “women’s health physiotherapy” the team will be happy to recommend a colleague of hers from the women’s health physiotherapist network.
Victoria recently joined the team of highly skilled physiotherapists at Highthorn. She graduated from the University of Manchester in 2003 with a BSc ( Hons ) in Physiotherapy. After working for 2 years in the NHS , Victoria moved to Australia, working in a private physiotherapy clinic and completing her qualifications to become a Pilates instructor.

On return to the UK, Victoria undertook an MSc in Sports Physiotherapy ( Cardiff ). She worked for 13 years in private physiotherapy in London , Sydney, Birmingham and Manchester. Sports specific experience includes : English Institute of Sport, Manchester 2012-2016 ( a variety of Olympic sports, predominantly Taekwondo ) London Olympics 2012, professional soccer 2004-2010 (Norwich City , Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Special Interests
Victoria has a special interest in hip and pelvic pain, publishing her masters research on muscle imbalance around the hip in Football players. She has gone on to study in more detail , physiotherapy targeting women's health issues including pre and post natal.
Additional skills include acupuncture and Pilates.

Other Interests
Apart from being mum to 2 young children, Victoria enjoys skiing and snowboarding.
